Water Conference Sponsors
Introduction
The following UNL units are sponsors of the annual Water Law, Policy and Science Conference.
Sponsors
Water Resources Research Initiative
The WRRI is strengthening UNL's effort to be a world leader in the field of water research by combining diverse areas of water resources expertise. It promotes greater collaboration among research faculty in NU water science disciplines of great strength such as groundwater hydrology, water quality, climate change, irrigation, remote sensing and geographical information systems. It includes outside organizations such as the Nebraska Dept of Natural Resources, the state’s network of natural resources districts and irrigation districts.
The Water Center's mission is to implement and facilitate water and water-related research, teaching, extension and public outreach programming within the University of Nebraska system. It also addresses environmental needs associated with the agricultural and natural resources areas of IANR.
SNR is sponsoring free student conference registration in celebration of Earth Day 2008.
SNR combines interdisciplinary approaches and disciplinary excellence to: foster an integrated, systems approach to address complex natural resource, environmental and human issues; provide a quality academic experience for students; conduct fundamental research of the mechanisms associated with natural resource systems; provide innovative outreach to citizens and stakeholders; investigate, record, and disseminate information about Nebraska’s Earth, water, atmospheric and biological resources; and promote a comprehensive conservation ethic for the effective and appropriate management and sustainable use of natural resources.
Conservation and Survey Division
CSD is the natural resource survey component of the School of Natural Resources, and is a unique, multi-disciplinary research, service and data-collection organization established by state statute in 1921. CSD's mission is to investigate and record information about Nebraska's geologic history, its rock and mineral resources, the quantity and quality of its water resources, land cover and other aspects of its geography, as well as the nature, distribution and uses of its soils.
Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources
IANR's program themes and long-term objectives include generating and disseminating knowledge and providing quality educational programs. These objectives dictate the focus and direction for IANR's programs. Essential, quality research, teaching and outreach programs will continue. Action plans address the long-term program objectives and consider policy, environmental and societal impacts. Collaborative partnerships are emphasized.
College of Journalism and Mass Communications
Journalism has been a part of the UNL curriculum since 1894. A School of Journalism was established as a unit within the College of Arts and Sciences in 1923. Until the mid-1940s, the School of Journalism offered courses designed exclusively to prepare graduates for employment by newspapers. Advertising courses were added soon thereafter, and broadcasting courses became available in the early 1960s. The school became a free-standing unit in 1979 and was named a college in 1985. The name was changed to the College of Journalism and Mass Communications in 1993. The college's mission dictates a high priority role for excellent undergraduate teaching in the three sequences: 1) advertising; 2) broadcasting; and 3) news-editorial.
