Safe and Affordable Drinking Water
Having safe and affordable drinking water is a major yardstick of the state of our civilization.
Most of us are very fortunate to have safe, abundant and affordable water at our fingertips. But even in Nebraska and throughout the midwest, some are faced with problems related to both the quantity and quality of their drinking water.
Issues related to water conservation, wellhead and other source-water protection and water treatment are the focus of nationwide research and technology development. These efforts involve research institutions such as the University of Nebraska and many federal, state and local agencies as well as private institutions and organizations.
We hope this publication will help you better understand the many issues involved in the delivery of safe drinking water to your home, school or business. That it will answer questions about potential contaminants and where to go to have water tested; how to help protect our drinking water supplies; and how public drinking water is monitored, tested, treated and delivered. There is plenty of information and help for the private drinking water well owner, as well.
